Through attending exhibitions and conducting interviews, reporters from 'Cosmetics Finance Online' found that whether it is glass bottles or plastic bottles, cosmetic packaging manufacturers pursue high transparency in their products.
Borosil (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., from Italy, mainly deals in glass packaging. Its sales manager, Tong Yidong, told reporters that customers' quality requirements for glass packaging are increasingly high. "Glass packaging is gradually moving toward the mid-to-high-end market. In the trade-off between product quality and price, transparency is an important consideration."
Tong Yidong gave an example to the reporters: When Mary Kay considered cooperating with Borosil, they saw a Borosil nail polish bottle that looked almost the same as their product, but Mary Kay's nail polish bottle was noticeably yellowed, with much lower transparency than Borosil's. When various colors of nail polish were filled into the bottles, the final color was affected; bottles with low transparency did not produce good color. "Although the packaging looks the same on the outside, there is a significant difference in quality."
However, Tong Yidong also stated that most skincare product packaging in the Chinese market currently uses plastic materials, and glass bottles are only a niche market. "It is worth emphasizing that the domestic market is still developing, and in the future, the market for glass packaging will become increasingly broad. What we need to do is to clearly control the target customer group and strive to gain our market share as much as possible."
In addition, "thick-bottom" bottles have also become a major trend in the cosmetics market recently. "Thick-bottom bottles have better quality, higher technical requirements, and a more textured appearance," explained Li Feng, a designer at Aida International Trade Co., Ltd. Generally, thick-bottom bottles are produced using injection molding technology, while original thin-bottom bottles use blow molding technology, and the former requires higher technical standards.
Reporters learned from Aida International that currently, in the market, PETG material is gradually replacing the originally used PP and PET materials for plastic cosmetic bottles. "PETG material is essentially an upgraded version of PET material. It is more corrosion-resistant, more transparent, and more impact-resistant, and it is mostly formed using injection molding technology, resulting in better quality."
Innovations in paper packaging are emerging continuously, and environmental protection concepts are becoming more deeply rooted in people's minds.
